LA CORNICHE La Corniche is located on the south facing side of the sunny, open Abondance valley just above the village of Chatel beside a ski run and close to lifts. On a quiet no-through-road close to the amenities of the village centre you will be only a quick traverse away from the telecabine & chair lifts giving direct access to the World's largest interconnected ski area, the Portes Du Soleil. The views over the village, valley and Mont Grange Nature Reserve are stunning. The local ski-bus service stops nearby for free transport to other Ski-lift departure points, or the village. The two bed roomed apartment is bright, south-facing with a private terrace in front. An open plan living/dining/kitchen stretches the width of the chalet, off which the bathroom and 2 bedrooms open. Kitchen equipment includes dishwasher, oven, electric hob, microwave, toaster etc. Linen included.
THE VILLAGE AND AREA
The Portes Du Soleil ski circuit is truly the largest in the world;
others may claim the title but we count about 740km of pistes with endless off-piste.
There are runs to suit all levels from beginner to extreme skier.
There are snow parks for the free-riders or snowboarders, timed runs to check your speed,
steep world cup bumps runs as well as many easier sections of bumps and off-piste; and of course
there are miles of motorway skiing for those who like to enjoy the varied scenery of the area at a gentler pace.
Views include Europe's highest mountain - Mont Blanc; the Dents Du Midi and Dents Blancs;
the Rhone valley with a glimpse of Montreux and Lac Leman - there are many more stunning vistas to be enjoyed. It's our favourite ski area and we've pretty much skied them all; but
after 22yrs in the Portes Du Soleil we are still discovering routes and
runs!
Mountain restaurants are plentiful, offering variety & good value, especially compared to
the more well known circuits such as the 3 valleys or Tignes/Val. The Swiss side of the circuit is
becoming particularly competitive with currency rates that favour sterling and the euro.
Ski schools and guiding services offer attentive professional
instructors and guides (should we mention that we ourselves work for
the ESF and on some dates can be booked for private lessons or guiding
if you wish?)
Attached to the ESF (Ecole Du Ski Francais) is the Marmottons baby ski
school, to get your budding champions off to a great start. For those to whom alpine skiing or snow-boarding hold no appeal there is a good range of cross country trails,
plenty of snow-shoe terrain and an ice rink... as well as the tempting range of boutiques and tea-shops in the village.
